without stepping away

The fear is not that life passes quickly,
but that we are not fully there while it does.

There is a fear that time moves too quickly…

Perhaps
what we are really afraid of
is not the speed of time at all,

But the sense of having moved through it
without ever really being in it.

At times
we disappear from life,
floating
into a sense of absence,

                        while still moving through it.

Lost time.

Often found

      in waiting
           for what comes next,
in rushing through what is here,
in being held too tightly to what was,

                    or drifting too far
                                        into what might be.

And even if years
move lightly,
and whole seasons
arrive and pass with surprising speed,

       There is a difference
between a life
that moves quickly
and a life
not fully lived from within.

—A full life was never meant to stand still.

Perhaps the fear
is not eased
by slowing time,

But by filling
your days
completely,

being deeply inside,
and occupying it fully.

Not by holding it still,
But by not stepping away from it.

A full life was never meant
to stand still.
